Barbara Meyers Ford began her career as an editorial assistant with the National Rehabilitation Association and proceeded to positions of increasing responsibility with non-profits. She has worked with the Forum for the Advancement of Students in Science and Technology, National Academies of Science, American Chemical Society, Chamber of Commerce of the United States. She has also worked with commercial firms including Capital Systems Group and RGA Consulting Group. In 1983, she founded Meyers Consulting Services, an independent consultancy devoted to providing membership organizations and professional/scholarly publishers with guidance and expertise in such areas as management, marketing, program assessment, publishing technologies, RFP facilitation, and strategic planning.

Current Research

  • Over the years Barbara has contributed numerous articles to a variety of industry publications such as Scholarly Publishing (the journal), the AAP/PSP Bulletin, SSP News, SIAM News, Internet Publishing News, Optics & Photonics News, Allen Press Newsletter, NFAIS Bulletin, APS Newsletter.
  • She has authored or co-authored white papers for The Sheridan Press addressing critical issues in STM/scholarly publishing such as Marketing Scholarly Journals, Marketing Reprints, Digital Workflow, Archiving, Creating Electronic Products, Outsourcing, and the Future of the Print Journal.
  • She co-authored the NISO Press publication: Metadata Demystified: A Guide for Publishers.
  • Currently and for the last several years, Barbara has been a contributing columnist (“Gatherings of an Infovore”) for the journal, Science Editor.
