Two years ago, students and faculty from CPS’s Sustainable Landscapes Program along with other faculty/students from GW, American and Catholic universities combined to form Team Capitol DC, the first team to represent the nation’s capital in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon.
Team Capitol DC conceptualized, designed and built Harvest Home, a 700-square-foot sustainable structure and garden. The team placed seventh among 20 finalists representing universities across the globe, in the final round of the competition held in Irvine, Calif., from October 3 to 13.
Harvest Home will be donated to a veteran client through Wounded Warrior Homes, a nonprofit organization that assists returning U.S. military veterans who are transitioning from active-duty military service to independent living by providing affordable and sustainable housing.
This video featuring several student spokespeople from Team Capitol DC was recently picked up by the White House blog.
