April 20, 2017

A group of IIST juniors and seniors recently attended a career symposium hosted by Accenture’s Federal office in Arlington, VA. Students were provided an overview of cutting edge data analytics and examples of critical problems addressed by using Accenture’s advanced technology.  Nathan Miller, a Data Scientist at Accenture presented an overview of a recent project that focused on text mining techniques to analyze data available from newspapers and periodicals and extracted information into relational databases and time-series data models to identify and predict activity.

As Accenture continues to expand in the global consulting industry, CIO Andrew Wilson envisions a virtual work environment to reduce the amount of physical offices globally. Now in the second full year of the digitized workspace, employees have the option to telework, work at the project location or use the new hoteling system. This system provides workers with the option to reserve an Accenture room at any office.  Students were provided a tour of the virtual environments and were excited to see a treadmill work station. Students were also given tips on applying for technology jobs and how to showcase their skills on their resumes.
