March 5, 2015

On Thursday, February 26, 2015, IIST and CPS Career Services sponsored a student site visit to Verizon’s Executive Briefing Center in Ashburn, Virginia. Verizon’s Ashburn facility houses more than 4,000 employees and various business units including IT, legal, finance, strategy, real estate, communications and new product development.

Students were first briefed by Verizon HR personnel, regarding career opportunities at Verizon, company culture and tips on how to showcase their technical skills in an interview.  After the introduction from HR, students toured the Network Operations Center (NOC) that monitors three networks – Verizon’s global IP network, the FiOS network, and the Digital Media Services Group. The visit concluded with a hands-on demonstration in briefing center’s experimental environment. Students were introduced to Verizon’s advanced technology solutions in intelligent networking, security, mobile, connected machines and The cloud.

"This was a great opportunity for our students to see first hand the kinds of innovation and state-of-the-art technology solutions that are being developed in Virginia" said Dr. Hooshangi, the director of the IIST program.
