Congratulations to CPS faculty member Elizabeth Rule who successfully defended her dissertation in December 2018 and completed her Ph.D. in American Studies at Brown University.
Rule's dissertation, now a book manuscript, is called Reproducing Resistance: Gendered Violence and Indigenous Nationhood. It offers an interdisciplinary and transnational legal history that connects gendered violence against Native American and First Nations women with reproductive justice issues.
“I’m also really excited to report I just published an article in American Quarterly, the premier journal in my field of study, titled "Seals, Selfies, and the Settler State: Indigenous Motherhood and Gendered Violence in Canada,” said Dr. Rule.
Dr. Rule teaches on the GW faculty as an Assistant Professor of Professional Studies, as well as serves as the Assistant Director of the AT&T Center for Indigenous Politics and Policy, the Academic Director of the Semester in Washington Politics program, and the Faculty in Residence at Madison Hall.
She is an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation.
