We are honored to announce that The Sustainable Urban Planning master’s degree has now received accreditation from the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB). This is a high academic standard that recognizes professional planning programs in North America based on performance, integrity and quality.

“PAB accreditation has elevated the Sustainable Urban Planning (SUP) program into the ranks of the truly elite planning programs, nationally and internationally. And, beyond the classroom, it places our program in a strong position to partner to the profession - in the National Capital Area and beyond," said Dr. John I. Carruthers, the Sustainable Urban Planning program director.

The full accreditation was received in May 2019, retroactive to January 2019 and is in effect for five years.

Students who successfully complete a PAB-accredited program may reduce the time required to become certified through the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Students enrolled in the SUP program study cities through the lens of economic, social and environmental sustainability. They gain a skill set for promoting more competitive, inclusive and ecological cities, with a unique focus on anthropogenic climate change.
