The College of Professional Studies (CPS) is re-launching its Semester in Washington (SIW) program for summer 2024. Our SIW program is a transformative and immersive educational experience that takes place over the course of a 6-week summer semester. The program is designed to provide students with a unique opportunity to explore the heart of American government while gaining practical skills and insights into political management for course credit.

Throughout the summer semester, undergraduate students from across the country will live and study on George Washington University’s central campus in Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C., which serves as the ideal backdrop for their academic and professional pursuits. The program offers a well-rounded curriculum, combining traditional classroom learning with hands-on experiences, flexible virtual or in-person internships and site visits to various governmental institutions and organizations.

Students have the option of either taking two courses (3 credits each) in the field of political management or one course and one internship (virtual or in-person) with a credit-bearing academic component (3 credits each).

Beyond the academic and professional aspects, students will have the chance to explore the rich history and culture of Washington, D.C. CPS will also host several influential guest speakers from various sectors of government and public service.

Overall, our SIW Program will provide a comprehensive, intellectually stimulating experience and empower students with the knowledge, skills and connections needed to become informed and active participants in the political landscape.
