Donald Johnson
Mr. Don Johnson served as the Assistant Director for Support and the Component Acquisition Executive at the Defense Health Agency, fulfilling responsibilities equivalent to a Senior Executive Service Level 3 (3-Star General) until May 2024. His role encompassed all acquisition matters across the Agency, including contracting, information technology/cyber, medical logistics, public health, enlisted Service member medical training/education, and Department of Defense medical research and development.
Previously, Mr. Johnson worked in the Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and private industry. In the Intelligence Community, he received the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Exceptional Civilian Service Award for spearheading a comprehensive overhaul of acquisition policies and the National Reconnaissance Office Innovation Award for transformative procurement practices.
Mr. Johnson’s experience includes serving as a client executive responsible for a major product line and advising five Defense Acquisition Executives responsible for the Department of Defense Acquisition System. While working in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, he was awarded the Deputy Secretary of Defense Award, Under Secretary of Defense Award, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Outstanding Management of the Year Award.
Currently, Mr. Johnson is an adjunct cybersecurity professor at George Washington University, where he teaches advanced countermeasures and risk management/artificial intelligence. With over a decade of experience alongside top cybersecurity experts, he has significant software expertise. He authored major portions of a congressionally directed Defense Science Board Report on software acquisition, highlighted in the National Defense Authorization Act as a model for the Department of Defense.
